Report from 2025 – New Hope
When we begin a new year – we are filled with new hope. It is now January 26 2026. But I am writing retrospect fully about 2025. It was a great year for new hope – New partnerships and new work in Nepal.
Our friendship with Shubbit and Ishwori Tamang was established by now and we made plans to work together on a new project – Threads of Hope. This project focused on vocational and skills training for women to increase their income earning capacity and provide for themselves and their families. While we were setting this new project up we became aware that it was time to finalise our child sponsorship work.
The Child Sponsorship work had been going on for the past 6 years with the hard work of our Field Officers and local church partners. However at the start of 2025, our dedicated Field Officers were beginning a new season of their lives which meant it was time for WWP to look elsewhere for staff and partnerships.
As of March 2025, our new partners in Nepal are:
Subbit and Ishwori Tamang.
We are so grateful for the many years of faithful work with Bethsaida Church in Lalitpur and look forward to many more years of working alongside our new partners in Nepal.
When finalising our child sponsorship we provided an opportunity for all the families to begin their own small income generation business. Some choose to begin or increase their small shop while most of the families chose to purchase goats, chickens and even buffalo! We are so happy to announce that WWP supported 5 buffalo in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal and hear that they are growing and eating a lot of grass, getting ready to reproduce.
Towards the end of the monsoon season there were a lot of damaged villages so we were invited to send some emergency support for some families in Ilaam who had lost their homes and all their belongings. With the help of the local churches we were able to send the funds and assist at a time when fast help was needed. One of the great things about being a small organization is that we can respond quickly to a need.
Supporting women in education has always been one of our values at WWP. We became aware of an opportunity to provide scholarships for a couple of women who were studying and working with their local communities in youth, women and children. We will again provide opportunity for several women with scholarships.
We closed the year with a visit to Nepal. Both my husband Danny and I spent time with our partners and visited the site of the new tailoring school, Threads of Hope. The building phase is complete and along with the sewing machines, tools of the trade and a great teacher it won’t be long untill the first students arrive. We hope that at least 6 women will complete the first course of 3 months and be able to begin their own income producing business as soon as possible. This will work along with a connection to the local church, women and the community as support, mentorship and friendship. What a great opportunity! As part of the community the church is well placed to provide the relationships and support that women in the tailoring course may require or want.
WWP plans another group trek for November 2026 and 2 women’s conferences. If you have a skill or an interest you think may value add to our work or would like to come trek with us, and enjoy the rhythms of walking, thinking, and laughing together with other women on the trail – contact me. I am open for your thoughts.
And for those of you who never come to Nepal but support our work – thankyou. Thank you so much. I am honoured, humbled and happy 🙂
