Wise Women Trek Team 2024

The invitation was sent out as the new year of 2024 opened up. The question was asked – “Do you want to trek in Nepal?”

I was expecting around 6 women to respond. What a great surprise to have 17 women take up the challenge. With lots of planning, prepping and training we all met up in Kathmandu early October a few days before the trek.

Kathmandu is a vibrant, colourful and ancient city in Nepal. There are plenty of quirky and curious streets, shops, bazaars and markets. Food options are varied with both Nepali and Western style meals. And enjoying the world’s best lassi is a thing not to be missed!

After meeting our guide and completing our pre trek activities, we flew into Lukla – the gateway to the Everest Region and the one of the most exciting airports in the world. Our trek had begun.

First two days were spent ascending to Namche at 3440m, the large village and merchant centre for the trekking routes in the region. Here we base camped for four nights, enjoying the surrounding trails to Kumjung, Everest View Hotel and Thame. a smaller group of five, set off for an overnight hike to Tengbouche to experience the higher altitude and views of that walk.

While at times some of us felt a little different due to the altitude, we all stayed well and strong to be able to continue walking, enjoying and embracing what the mountains provided. Each day began with a pre-trek Reflection. A special time to pause and consider the answers to the question – “Why did you trek in Nepal?”

After 8 days we arrived back at our starting point, Lukla. Here we celebrated with our whole team, porters, guides and trekkers. There was a lot of laughter, dancing and Dal Bhaat!

Due to weather our flight to Kathmandu was delayed by one day, but after another night on the mountains we all safely and gladly returned to our Hotel and warm showers in Kathmandu.

I am quite sure that I have never enjoyed such a group of women with so much energy, laughter, tears and strength as these! I am blessed to have been able to lead this team. Thank-you for the privilege ladies!
